The term planimetry is formed by two concepts: plane and metrics. The plane is the graphic representation of a space, while metrics refers to a suffix that expresses measure. Consequently, planimetry means a way of measuring planes.
To prepare a topographic plan a measurement system is needed . In other words, the word planimetry becomes a working method for making plans. However, there is not a single method, but several. First, in planimetry, the radiation method is used, through which angles and distances are measured from a central point. Secondly, the itinerary method is used, which serves to relate and unite a series of points within a geographical framework. Finally, there is the intersection method, a measurement system that allows you to establish flat points in relation to very large surfaces. Anyway, planimetry reproduces information topographical through points, lines, diagonals and curves that refer to a surface of any terrain.
Planimetry of the human body
Although the planimetry concept is normally associated with the topographical description of a surface, it can also be applied in other areas, for example, in medicine. Let’s think about a nutritionist who needs to measure certain parameters of the human body. To perform this representation, the nutrition specialist must establish specific measurements of the body structures. In this sense, the nutritionist must place the patient on their feet and from there divide the body into several structures: skull, chest and its extremities.
Planimetry has three different planes: the coronal plane that divides the front and back; the median plane that divides laterality and the horizontal plane that divides the body into its upper and lower part. Planimetry is, therefore, an auxiliary discipline that is part of human anatomy.
Planimetry establishes physiological parameters of the body and can be divided into several specific disciplines: orthopedic, traumatological and radiological planimetry.
Sports activity has an indisputable scientific dimension, especially in relation to elite sport . In this sense, during the planning of a specific training, it is necessary to establish a general action plan, which is called sports planimetry. Generally, an athlete‘s training should include the following items: determining general and specific goals, training periods and methodology to be followed.
