The design of accessible cities for people with mobility problems
A blind person who moves around the city faces situations of high risk to their physical integrity. A person using a wheelchair also faces all kinds of problems (for example, sidewalks that are too high or lack of parking for their vehicle).
Deaf people have difficulties in urban areas, as certain dangers are known only through acoustic signals. To significantly reduce these problems, cities need to incorporate accessibility measures. In this sense, some cities have launched initiatives to improve everyone’s mobility. Urban Mobility
Among them, we can highlight the following: audible traffic lights for people with vision problems, buses adapted for wheelchairs, sidewalks that allow access for wheelchairs, acoustic signals for the deaf, information panels on the traffic situation, etc.
Mobility problems in cities do not exclusively affect people with disabilities
A mother carrying a baby carriage may have difficulty getting around normally. A person with a leg injury also reports all sorts of problems.
