Lexical family examples with definition and concept

Lexical family

The lexical family are those groups of words that are joined by the same root or lexeme, which makes the terms have similar meanings. This set of words is also called a word family, precisely because they share the same origin. Lexical family concept and examples

On the other hand, the root that causes the lexical or word family to be formed is not necessarily at the beginning of the word, but all the others start or are derived from it. In other words, the root or lexeme is accompanied by either a prefix, an interfix or a suffix. For example: love bear, give love, en amor ar, en amor ada, amor íos.

A lexical family can be made up of primitive words or derived words. The first are those that do not come from any other, but that give rise to new words to expand the communication process. An example is sea. While derived words are born from primitives; for example: sea itimo.

Definition and concept

A lexical family is a group of words that are united by the same root or primitive term (lexeme), this is how new words arise that are useful for the exchange of information.

It is important to note that to belong to the same set, words must be related in terms of their meaning and spelling features. Finally, the words that are derived from the root or lexeme are accompanied by suffixes, prefixes or interfixes.
