What is Email definition/concept/elaboration

This is one of the oldest services on the modern Internet . It has facilitated for decades the interaction between computer users from different continents, based on text messages . Email

E-mail is a digital service that allows computer users to send and receive messages with text content, as well as other additional functions such as attaching files with messages.

Electronic mail is also known as e-mail or email (the second form is less frequent) because of the abbreviation eletronic in English.

Although it is not strictly necessary for the computer to be connected to a network (we can send an email message to another user on the same system ) and for the email service to be used on another network other than the Internet, intuitively, any of us identifies this service with the Internet and sending messages to Internet users located in different places. Email

The history of electronic mail goes back to the late 60s and early 1970s, in the 20th century, when, based on previously existing services, a messaging service was implemented in the ARPANET network and established itself as current email

It was precisely at this time that the at sign (@) began to be used to separate and differentiate the name of the user who writes the message from the name of the server, a symbol that became universal.

E-mail addresses are composed as follows:

For example, guillem @ would be a valid e-mail address in its format (but I’ll add that it doesn’t exist).

The use of the service is based on a series of programs, starting with a client that writes a message to be sent, once the user presses the exit button through an e-mail agent installed on the output device or on the server that is connected. Email

For home Internet connections, e-mail service is usually provided by the same operator, although we may alternatively subscribe to a free or even paid service, regardless of the network connection provider.

This, as the main advantage, is that if we change the access provider, we would keep the mailbox regardless of what our new company is .

The e-mail message is stored on the server that hosts the recipient’s mailbox after being routed to its destination via the Internet, in addition, it is retrieved and read from the moment the user opens his/her mailbox. Email

Initially, e-mail, in text format, required an application installed on the local machine

Then came the graphical environments and with them the e-mail and, finally, the webmail services that allow managing the mail through a web interface, whose maximum exponents are Hotmail / Outlook and Gmail.

Recently, e-mails also reached cell phones, with dedicated applications and services.

Among the services allowed are the following: attaching files, replying to messages and resending them.

Attaching files allows us to use e-mail to send photos, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and even complete programs. Email

Reply allows us to write an email directly in reply to the other without having to re-enter the recipient’s address and keeping the original text if it is of interest.

Likewise, we can send and reply to multiple recipients and even resend a message to a third party.

Although at different times a replacement for e-mail was sought, initially with voice messages, so far nothing and no one has been able to overshadow this fundamental Internet service, except perhaps IP messages. Email

Smartphone and desktop apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram or Hangouts were the first to threaten the use of email, but even so there is no real danger of replacement as there are users who prefer other forms of communication and for different purposes

On the other hand, one of the main problems with this technology is the amount of spam or “junk mail” sent and received per day. This means that an average user will likely receive a lot of unwanted email every day.
