What is NGO definition/concept/elaboration

The term NGO refers to a type of entity charged with providing non-profit services. The acronym meaning “non-governmental organization” makes a difference with public sector bodies. In fact, public agencies are also characterized by offering non-profit services; the difference with the NGO is that it belongs to the private sector. The NGO’s area of activity is usually varied, even so it tries to solve certain problems that a private company is unable to carry out.

There are great needs in society that the market tries to solve by generating goods and services. However, this circumstance presents obstacles when problems occur in sectors that, due to their characteristics, have limited purchasing power and find themselves unable to generate sufficient resources to solve these problems. This is how the NGO gets involved in this context, trying to solve or alleviate the problems that these sectors are unable to solve; thus the NGO has a social role .

The field of action of an NGO can be the most varied, depending on the needs and problems that society presents. Thus, for example, there are NGOs linked to the health area that offer basic services, training, treatments, etc., as well as those that base their activities on processes of human formation and promotion; others try to solve the problems of homelessness. Thus, all of them and many other possibilities are contemplated in the action of an NGO. That’s why highly qualified professionals in their fields are part of these organizations to improve the population’s quality of life .

The funding is a major problem that can happen in such an organization. That’s why presentations and explanations of their activities are made so that other entities can help them financially. Generally, the state is interested in helping an NGO when it sees its activity justified. In fact, the social work of this type of system is usually more efficient than that of the state.
