What is Leg Bone definition/concept/elaboration
The lower limb, popularly called the leg, consists of a total of 31 bones. These are distributed to form the hip, thigh, knee, leg and foot. Leg Bone
hip bones
The hip is the structure that joins the lower limb to the trunk. It has a bone, the thigh bone.
Thigh Bone. This bone is located in the pelvis and gives shape to the hip. Its inner part is joined to the sacrum through the sacroiliac joint and its outer part joins the femur forming the hip joint, also known as the hip joint. This bone gives off an extension in its anterior part that joins the counterpart of the contralateral thigh bone to form the pubis.
thigh bones
The thigh is the area of the lower limb located between the hip and knee. It has a bone, the femur.
Femur. It is the longest bone in the body. Its upper extremity has a rounded shape and is known as the head of the femur, which joins the iliac bone to form the hip joint. The head of the femur is a vulnerable point for the elderly, as it is a frequent site of fractures due to osteoporosis. Leg Bone
knee bones
The knee has only one: the patella.
Patella. It is a small, flat, triangular-shaped bone with a lower apex. It is in front of the lower end of the femur, however, it is not directly attached to it as it is a sesamoid-type bone. The patella is found within the tendon of the quadriceps muscle, which is the muscle located on the front of the thigh.
leg bones
The leg is formed by two bones: the tibia and the fibula.
Tibia. It is the main bone of the leg, located in its anterior part. Its upper extremity is wide, with a flat surface called the tibial plateau through which it articulates with the femur and fibula, in its lower part it articulates with the talus that forms the ankle joint. The prominence located on the inner part of the ankle, called the internal malleolus, is the prominence of the lower part of the tibia. Leg Bone
Fibula. It is a thin bone located outside the tibia. The fibula articulates with the tibia on its upper part and with the astragalus on the lower part, thus forming a prominence located on the outside of the ankle known as the external malleolus.
foot bones
The foot is a complex structure composed of 26 bones distributed as follows:
Back: Astragalus, calcaneus, scaphoid, cuneiform bones (3) and cuboids.
Previous part: Metatarsians (5) and phalanges (14). Leg Bone
