What is Eunuch definition/concept/elaboration

When a man’s genitals are partially or totally amputated, castration takes place. Castration is partial when the testicles are mutilated and total when the mutilation refers to the testicles and penis. In some cultural and social contexts of antiquity the castrated person was called a eunuch.

From the point of view of medical pathology, there is eunuchism, which is the set of physical alterations experienced by eunuchs (hormonal and morphological alterations and in some cases mental problems).

A historical brushstroke

In Greek mythology, Amazons mutilated male genitals when they no longer needed the male sexually. On the other hand, the figure of the eunuch appears frequently in the Bible (for example, Noah had his sexual organs amputated at the hands of his own son Ham).

Formerly in China, castration occurred to punish certain crimes. At the same time, some men decided to self-mutilate and become eunuchs in order to be of service to the emperor (the eunuch was considered a faithful man and a good watchman for women).

In the eastern harems the Sultan had slave women with whom he could have sexual relations.

These women, known as odalisques, had to be watched carefully and the eunuch was responsible for carrying out this function .

Some Christian currents expressed their radical rejection of sexuality, which is evaluated as a sinful tendency. In this sense, in Russia, the Skoptsy sect was formed by men who decided to mutilate their genitals in order to renounce any sexual temptation.

Between the 16th and 19th centuries there was a custom in Europe to castrate singing boys to keep their voices high. These eunuch children are called castrati. These singers were highly valued in the noblest environments for their vocal quality . Interestingly, castratis were appreciated by courtesans, as they were considered exotic men with whom they could have sex without the risk of pregnancy.

The persecution of albinos on the African continent

At present there is no eunuch with a social , religious or artistic function. However, in some African territories, this practice of male castration still exists. This happens to albinos, who mutilate their genitals to use them in acts of witchcraft.
