Etymologically anomie means lawless, as this word is formed by the prefix “a” which means negation and the suffix “nomia” which is equivalent to law. However, its etymology can also be understood with another meaning (no name) since the suffix “nomia” also expresses the action of naming. This distinction with regard to its origin makes the word anomie have two meanings: absence of laws or language disorder that prevents a subject from naming things. Anomie
In the field of philosophy and social sciences
From the point of view of ethical reflection , anomie occurs when an individual lives their moral dimension with the absence of norms that regulate their behavior. In this sense, a person acts morally when he incorporates norms that serve to guide his behavior and, therefore, anomie presents itself when there is an absence of moral criteria. Anomie
From the perspective of sociology, some thinkers consider that social anomie manifests itself in situations where there is a normative mismatch in some aspect of society, for example, the lack of normative regulation in the professional field or some circumstance that can be defined as a law for a lifetime. A concrete example of anomie is the case of workers who carry out their activity without any type of contract or legality to support them.
A problem affecting language
Certain neurological problems lead to an obvious limitation in the ability to speak. When an individual cannot name things because he cannot find words, an anomie occurs. This language disorder is also known as anonomic aphasia. People with this limitation can speak, but with limitations, as they often don’t find the right words, for example, they don’t remember the names of people close to them, or they are unable to name a known object . In this way, a person with anonomic aphasia knows what an object is but is not able to say its name. This problem is due to a mismatch between the cerebral hemispheres. Anomie
In other words, language is articulated in the left hemisphere, but for the coordination between thought and language to be effective it is necessary that the right hemisphere correctly interacts with the left.
